Environmental StressModerate
Stretching Cannabis Seedlings
Stretchy seedlings are thin, tall, and fall over — a sure sign the light is too far away or too weak. Caught early, easy to fix.
What it looks like
- ●Tall, thin stems that can't support themselves
- ●Big gaps between leaf nodes
- ●Seedling falls over or leans toward light
Quick diagnostic checks
1Lower the light OR get a brighter one
2Bury the stretchy part when transplanting
3Add gentle fan breeze — strengthens stems
Causes ranked by likelihood
1. Light too weak or too far
Most commonSigns
- ●Windowsill grow
- ●LED too high
- ●CFL/fluorescent not strong enough
Fix
- ✓Move LED to 18-24" from seedling
- ✓Use a proper grow light (even a small 100W LED beats a window)
- ✓Bury the stem up to the first set of leaves when transplanting — fixes the stretch
⚠️When to worry
Stretched seedlings recover fine if you bury the stem. Left uncorrected, they'll fall over.
